COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- As searchers continue to look for a local man buried in the rubble in Haiti, FOX21 News has heard from a searcher in the heart of the disaster zone.

Rescuers are still digging through the rubble of the hotel Montana in Port-au-Prince where they hope to find David Hames, who is still missing. He was trapped in concrete and debris when the hotel collapsed.

But more than a week after the earthquake, searchers are hopeful because they are hearing tapping from beneath rubble.

FOX21 News spoke to Tim Glenn on Thursday. He's been in Port-au-Prince for three days, overseeing Compassion International's relief efforts.

Glenn says while the size of the search for Hames is daunting, searchers there are still holding out hope. He has been in Haiti  since Monday and says it's hard to grasp the size of the disaster until you see it in person.

"I know people have seen photographs. I know they have seen video but it really does no justice to the magnitude of it," said Glenn.

Glenn and his team are staying in the heart of Port-au-Prince as the search continues.

"We are sleeping, we are taking bucket baths -- a wash cloth and a bucket of water. We brought in some canned food and bottles of water just to sustain us," said Glenn.

He says relief supplies are getting to the quake victims but not quickly enough. And many victims are getting desperate.

"Today we saw a truck carrying rice get overtaken in the road. People were climbing over the truck while it was driving, opening the back doors and throwing bags of rice out so people could get at food," said Glenn.

Glenn has spent a lot of time at the Hotel Montana where David Hames is buried.

"They are using drills trying to break through some of the concrete, pneumatic drills," said Glenn.

Glenn says he still holding out hope that Hames is alive. But the tapping that so many people are pointing to as a sign Hames is alive may not be as encouraging as first thought.

"We're holding out hope that it is tapping, but there is no way to know for sure and even if it is tapping, it's so far down in the rubble it's going to take a while to get there," Glenn said.

Compassion International says new crews are constantly being rotated into the Hotel Montana so they always have fresh eyes and fresh searchers on the scene.
