DENVER (AP) -- A former Denver school secretary who taped a child's mouth has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor child abuse charge.

Jennifer Carter was sentenced to probation on a deferred sentence of 18 months. The 46-year-old secretary was charged after taping an unruly elementary student's hands and mouth with masking tape last October.

A charge of false imprisonment was dismissed in exchange for the plea. She was fired from the school.
