COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO -- David Hames from Colorado Springs is still missing after the devastating earthquake in Haiti. He is one of the two employees of Compassion International (CI) who were in Haiti. His pastor, Kelly Williams, read a statement written by David’s wife, Renee Hames, at Vanguard Church Sunday afternoon.

“For all the people who know and love David with me, we need to remember that God says, 'Be still and know that I am God.' He is our God who will provide beauty and joy even in the midst of devastation. I have been blessed with friends who have tucked me under their wings and have prayed with me, encouraged me, support me and cried with me. Because of the support structure they have built around me, I have felt a great peace. Please continue to pray for David’s rescue and well-being,” said the statement by Renee Hames.

Friends tell FOX21 News this was David's passion, to help children in need and show the world how children are being helped by Compassion International. And he was doing just that, David Hames, along with Dan Woolley, were in Haiti filming for CI. They were staying at Hotel Montana, one of the hotels that crumbled in the earthquake. The couple has two young boys.

“Renee just spends time praying, being with friends, spending time with God, spending time alone, just rejuvenating. She has slept well and her children are doing amazingly well given the circumstances and we are just really proud of her,” said Tosha Williams, a family friend.

CI has two people on the ground in Haiti to communicate with rescue teams working at Hotel Montana. Woolley, who was rescued, has provided information about David Hames and his location to rescuers who are working to find him and hopefully bring him home.

“We are encouraged by the continuing reports of people being pulled out of the hotel wreckage and believe that David will be among them. David is part of the Compassion Family and we will do everything we can to ensure that he is rescued. We are grateful for the passionate and tremendous work David has done with us on behalf of the over one-million children in poverty that Compassion serves,” said Kathy Redmond, U.S. Communications Director at Compassion International.

Anyone who would like to help the Hames family can log onto Vanguard Church's Web site.
