VAIL, Colo. (AP) -- At least two people were caught in Colorado avalanches this week, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

On Thursday, a skier near Vail was buried under about a foot of snow for about 15 minutes in an avalanche triggered when he jumped off a cliff. Two friends heard him screaming and uncovered him. The avalanche information center says no one in the group had avalanche gear.

On Sunday northeast of Silverton, a splitboarder was buried up to his thigh in a slide in the backcountry. No injuries were reported.
