DENVER (AP) — The influenza outbreak in Colorado has dwindled to fewer than 20 new hospitalizations a week, down from a peak of nearly 360 during the week of Oct. 11.

The state Department of Public Health and Environment reported 14 flu-related hospitalizations last week, although that number could rise if any late reports come in.

The number of new hospitalizations has stayed below 20 since the week of Dec. 6.

One flu-related death was reported last week, bringing the total to 59 this season.

About 36 percent of the deaths have been in the 25- to 49-year-old group. The highest death rate has been among 50- to 64-year-olds, with 1.94 deaths per 100,000 people.

Health officials say virtually all the influenza cases in Colorado have been the swine flu or H1N1 virus.
