COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO -- If holiday shopping is any indication of the way the local economy in Colorado Springs is going -- things may be looking up.
Terra Verde on Tejon Street was packed with shoppers Sunday afternoon, owner Chris Sondermann told FOX21 News. Store owners along Tejon Street have come together this holiday season to help each other out.
“We rely on networking with each other and just creating a destination for shopping that is a little less hectic than a mall, a little more personal,” said Sondermann.
Sondermann said she's noticed a difference with holiday shoppers this year than last season. She said shoppers are calmer and are spending more time browsing whereas last year more people really stuck to their list.
Down the street from Terra Verde is Sparrow Hawk. The owner there told FOX21 News business is up this holiday season from last year which means more money coming into our local economy.
“If you shop locally with a locally owned store about 65 percent of the money stays within the local economy. If you shop with the chain stores it's only about 15 percent,” said Sam Eppley, owner of Sparrow Hawk.
If you'd rather shop online, this coming Thursday many online stores are providing free shipping.
Thursday is also the last day to mail your presents with the U.S Postal Service to arrive on time for Christmas.
