COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- * The Youth Zone at the Pikes Peak Workforce Center is offering a new workshop today. It's "Self-Advocacy Training" for teens and their parents. The free course is designed to teach young people how to empower themselves by taking charge of their own lives in various situations. Activities to help build self-esteem are also incorporated. Parents can learn tips on better communicating with their teen and help them become more independent. If you're interested, the course is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Pikes Peak Workforce Center located at 2306 E. Pikes Peak Ave. You do need to register beforehand at www.ppwfc.org
* It's another chance to be rewarded with free grub while helping those less fortunate in our community. Qdoba Mexican Grill is giving away "Buy one, get one free" street taco coupons to the first 1,000 people to come into one of the five Colorado Spring restaurant locations and donate two non-perishable food items. The donation drive lasts from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and benefits the Springs Rescue Mission. Food items especially needed are: canned yams, gravy, cranberry sauce, fruit and boxes of stuffing dressing mix. Last year, this same event collected more than 5,000 pounds of food and they hope to do even better this year.
