COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- An afternoon traffic chase ended with the arrest of an unnamed juvenile driver and a passenger identified as Zechariah Gardner, 18.
A Colorado Springs police officer spotted a stolen vehicle near Platte and Academy at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon and made a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped away as she approached the driver's door, then headed northbound on Academy Blvd.
The officer gave chase with lights and sirens flashing, according to the police report, and the suspect vehicle struck several other cars as the driver attemped to squeeze between two lanes of traffic at Portal Drive and Academy Boulevard. The suspect vehicle was disabled and both the drive and passenger ran from the scene.
The passenger allegedly ran east through the Citadel Crossing shopping center, while the passenger ran west across Academy Boulevard. The officer in pursuit apprehended the passenger.
Other officers arrived on scene and the driver was caught running out a hallway in a nearby apartment complex.
The incident is under investigation.
