LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Republicans running for Senate are facing off for a debate ahead of next year's primary.

Former lieutenant governor Jane Norton is making her first appearance against Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck. The debate Tuesday night is at the conservative Colorado Christian University in Lakewood.

The winner of the GOP primary will face the winner of a Democratic contest. Currently the seat is held by Democrat Michael Bennet, who was appointed to the seat earlier this year to replace Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.

Bennet is facing a primary challenge from former Colorado Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff.
