COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The El Paso Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution proclaiming Friday, November 6 as the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women Education Day in El Paso County.”

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the #1 killer of American women, claiming more than 450,00 lives each year. In order to combat those statistics, the AHA conducts outreach and education programs like this Friday's "Go Red For Women" Luncheon to prevent women from even having a cardiovascular incident.

"Unfortunately, a lot of times, I think that is many people's wake-up call," AHA Volunteer Jill Johnson said. "There are some things you can do ahead of time. Don't wait for that wake-up call -- there are some changes you can make now that can really have a huge impact."

This year's “Go Red for Women Education Day” event will be at the Antler’s Hilton from 8:30am to 2pm. It includes health screenings to get a feel for your heart health, fitness demonstrations, an "Ask-the-Doc" booth, as well as interactive displays and a heart healthy lunch.

The cost is $125 and early registration is highly recommended.
To register, call 635-7688.
