GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — A Greeley man whose house burned down with his brother inside has been charged in his brother's death.
Police say 26-year-old James Lauberts lived with and cared for 50-year-old David Lauberts, who is disabled. A fire destroyed their house Sept. 25, and David Lauberts was found dead in the house.
James Lauberts was arrested Tuesday on charges of criminally negligent homicide, first-degree arson and tampering with physical evidence. He was being held without bond.
Police said in an affidavit released Wednesday that David Lauberts died before the fire started. An autopsy report says he died of several ailments, but also of "active caretaker neglect."
The Greeley Tribune reports that James Lauberts denied setting the fire.
