More than 600 people attended event
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Congressman Doug Lamborn spent Monday morning In Colorado Springs. He hosted a town hall meeting at Stargazer's Theater about health care reform and its future in this country.
During the event supporters and opponents of health care reform shared their thoughts and feelings. Supporters of the so-called "government option" say it is time for change.
"The most dramatic statistic that we have is there are 45 million people without health care insurance. that alone says we have a big problem," William Brown said.
Brown supports President Obama's health care bill. He said his children have had a hard time securing health insurance after being laid off.
Lamborn said he understands Brown and others concerns, but is still against government-run health care.
"I would like to take the existing program and fix what is wrong with what we have instead of government taking over so much," Lamborn said.
Lamborn said there are a lot of cost saving options available that would increase portability and access such as health savings accounts and tort reform -- items he said Democrats are not willing to consider.
"Rationing is not the American way of doing health care, and a government-run plan will inevitably lead to that," Lamborn said. "Plus it is going to have higher costs and tax increases which will hurt our economy."
As for supporters of the "government option," they said enough is enough and added it is time for everyone to have access to health care regardless of who they are.
"The other big issue is the cost. There are co-pays and deductibles and people are paying enormous amounts out of pocket," Brown said.
