COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs police officers were called to 4460 Malibu Point, #103, just after 8 p.m. Tuesday on report of an accidental shooting.

Police found the victim, Brian Gutierrez, 20, a Fort Carson soldier, in the parking lot of the apartment complex where he was bleeding profusely from his hand. He was taken to Memorial Hospital and treated for the non-life threatening injury.

Investigation revealed that Gutierrez was handling a new weapon when it discharged into his hand.

Statements by the subject and the other person present were consistent with the scene.

Gutierrez was served with a summons for prohibited use of a weapon and released.
