DENVER (AP) -- President Barack Obama has nominated Gov. Bill Ritter's deputy chief of staff to be the top federal prosecutor in Colorado.

Sen. Mark Udall announced Wednesday that Stephanie Villafuerte has been nominated for U.S. attorney.

Udall says former Larimer County Undersheriff John Kammerzel has been nominated for U.S. marshal for Colorado.

Villafuerte has served chief deputy Denver district attorney and as an assistant U.S. attorney. She is a board member of the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Kammerzel is director of the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training Board, which establishes training criteria for officers.

He also served as the director of the County Sheriffs of Colorado.
