MONTROSE, Colo. (AP) — Montrose County commissioners are expected to vote on a proposed uranium mill in southwest Colorado.

Commissioners had been scheduled to make a decision on the mill on Sept. 9 but delayed it until Wednesday after hearing from about 200 people at a public hearing.

The mill's proponents say it would help the economy and opponents worry about the effects on the environment and public safety.

The county planning commission in August recommended approving the uranium mill by Toronto-based Energy Fuels Inc. Commissioners now have to vote on whether to grant a special use permit for the mill.

The mill would be 12 miles west of Naturita and about 225 miles southwest of Denver.
