FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- Prosecutors are considering whether to reopen a perjury investigation against a police officer in the case of a man whose murder conviction was overturned last year by DNA evidence.
Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck says he is weighing whether Lt. Jim Broderick should be investigated after documents surfaced showing he may have misstated his involvement in monitoring Tim Masters, then a suspect in a homicide.
Broderick had testified he had minimal involvement in the Masters case from 1987 and 1992. But the new documents show he may have helped plan a surveillance effort against Masters in 1989.
Masters was convicted for Peggy Hettrick's death in 1998.
Broderick was cleared of any wrongdoing by his department and Buck declined to file charges against him after reviewing his case.
