ALAMOSA, Colo. (AP) -- The Colorado Army National Guard is opening a new readiness center and basing a new unit in Alamosa.

Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards, the adjutant general of Colorado, said Thursday the facility is the home of the new Delta Company, 1st of the 157th Infantry Battalion. It will also serve as a temporary armory and recruiting station.

Planning is under way for a permanent armory, but no cost estimates are available and no completion date has been set.

The Guard will hold a public open house at the new center on Saturday.

Alamosa is 170 miles south of Denver.
