CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) -- Video shown in the trial of a man charged with fatal child abuse in his daughter's disappearance shows a detective theorizing that an upcoming visit of family prompted the parents to report the girl had run away.

The video was shown Friday morning in the trial of Aaron Thompson, charged with fatal child abuse in the disappearance of his daughter Aarone. She's presumed dead.

Defense attorneys say Thompson was trying to cover up Aarone's death at the hands of his live-in girlfriend, Shely Lowe, when he reported Aarone missing in November 2005. Lowe died of heart failure in 2006.

Detective Terrance Allen noted the family was expecting a visit from relatives, prompting the need to make up a story.
