DENVER (AP) -- Colorado lawmakers are getting recommendations from the public on how to deal with the state's budget crisis.
Suggestions given the Legislature's fiscal stability committee on Wednesday include requiring students on college scholarships to work, offering parents $2,000 a year to send students to private schools and giving the lieutenant governor an administrative job in addition to the occasional duties of chairing the Indian Affairs commission, the only official duty required by law.
Gov. Bill Ritter says the state needs to cut $400 million from the current budget by Sept. 1 and find long-term solutions to the state's continuing budget crises.
