DENVER (AP) -- Colorado's U.S. senators voted in favor of a failed measure that would have allowed state concealed-weapons permit holders to carry their weapons in most other states.
Despite the support of Democrats Mark Udall and Michael Bennet, the measure fell two votes shy of the 60 needed to pass on Wednesday.
Colorado already honors permits issued by 27 states. Udall says Colorado's experience with led him to conclude that the measure wouldn't have raised the risk of crime.
Bennet says anyone with an out-of-state permit would have still been subject to Colorado's criminal laws.
Tom Mauser, the father of Columbine victim Daniel Mauser, opposed the measure. He was surprised that Colorado already had arrangements with so many states but he didn't think the state should be forced to add any more.
