FOX21 News wants your version of that day in history
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- FOX21 News wants to know where you were, how you felt and what you remember about the 1969 Moon Landing.
Most people older than age 45 will have memories of the first moon landing that occurred on July 20, 1969. It was the turbulent '60s, but the world stopped and watched as N.A.S.A. reveled in its finest achievement to date.
It was history-in-the-making as families gathered in front of television sets -- many with 19" screens, not the monster 54" plasmas of today -- and watched as Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins stepped where no man had gone before. The Apollo 11 spacecraft touched down on the Sea of Tranquility, and people around the world cheered at the success -- and later, safe return -- of the crew.
This was before the Internet, before YouTube, before cell phones, text messages, "downloads" and 3G networks.
These men were the "American Idols" of their day, and the prize was a place in history that few hope to achieve.
