Bike and Build riders going cross-country helping Habitat for Humanity
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Thirty three college-aged bicyclists will stop in Colorado Springs from Thursday, July 2, to Saturday, July 11, as they cycle from South Carolina to California this summer to raise money and awareness for affordable housing.
Riders hail from all over the U.S., and have raised at least $4,000 to participate on the ride.
In addition to raising more than $135,000, the "Bike and Builders" will volunteer a total of 16 days on affordable housing build sites along their route to California.
Nine of these 16 days will be at a blitz build in Colorado Springs for the Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity, where the riders will build an entire house that has been wholly funded by a grant from Bike and Build.
The proceeds of the funds raised are distributed through a grant system to affordable housing organizations throughout the country.
Bike and Build trips place a major focus on interaction with local communities. The riders will travel through 58 different towns this summer, and the experience is greatly enriched when they can learn about the townspeople and the history behind each community they stay in.
The public is invited to stop by the Colorado Springs build site at 7516 Crestone Peak Trail as they work to reach the goal of providing a safe, healthy home for those in need.
