COLORADO SPRING, COLO. -- Updated at 4:45 p.m.
A Fort Carson soldier, age 27, is dead after a motorcycle crash Thursday morning on Interstate 25 in Colorado Springs.
Police Lt. Pat Rigdon said the motorcycle rider crashed into a commercial vehicle on southbound I-25 just south of the Cimarron Street exit at about 10:25 a.m. Thursday.
Police reports say the motorcyclist lost control near the top of the ramp, locked up the brakes, crossed the dirt shoulder and entered the southbound lanes of the Interstate where he was struck by the commercial vehicle which was southbound in the right traffic lane.
The motorcyclist died at the scene.
Speed on the part of the motorcycle appears to be a factor in the incident. The driver of the truck was not charged with any offense.
Two lanes were closed and traffic reduced to traveling one lane for three hours.
The victim's name has not been released.
