DENVER (AP) — Efforts to conserve and restore fish and wildlife in Colorado will get a $1.3 million boost from the federal government.

The funds are among $61 million being distributed nationwide in wildlife grants. The money comes from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says Colorado's effort to conserve the Gunnison sage grouse is an example of how states are spending the money. Public agencies, private groups and landowners are working to protect the bird found in south-central Colorado.

The Gunnison sage grouse is being considered for addition to the federal endangered species list.
