COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- An expectant mother and her unborn child are dead after a one-vehicle crash in Colorado Springs.
Police Sgt. Rob Kelley says a man was driving the 26-year-old woman to the hospital at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday when the woman suddenly slumped over.
The man reached over to try to help but lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a tree in front of the Olympic Training Center.
The woman died at the scene. Emergency responders rushed the body to Memorial Hospital a block away in an attempt to save the baby, but the child died at birth.
The 26-year-old man was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No names have been released.
