GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — A man accused of using a pocket knife to stab a man who was found dead a few days later has pleaded not guilty.

Fifty-eight-year-old Mack Sadler entered his plea Monday to charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault in the Feb. 3 death of 32-year-old Douglas Bennett.

Authorities say Sadler stabbed Bennett outside Sadler's home after an argument Jan. 29. Sadler has said he acted in self-defense.

Bennett was taken to a hospital for treatment, and released on Feb. 2. A day later, prosecutors say Bennett suffered an allergic reaction to medication he was taking in connection with the attack and died.

The Mesa County coroner ruled the stabbing caused his death.

Public defender Ryan Esplin says he's considering a plea deal with prosecutors.
