BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Boulder school officials say classes will resume Thursday at a middle school that was evacuated by an asbestos scare.

Principal Terry Gillach says air-quality tests performed at Southern Hills Middle School show that no asbestos was released into the air.

Nearly 500 students and staff were cleared from the school Wednesday morning because of concerns that asbestos was released into the building while a construction worker was investigating a heating problem. The worker discovered asbestos after cutting into a rooftop heating unit.

Southern Hills students spent the day in the gym of nearby Fairview High School.

Gillach said late Wednesday that multiple air samples were taken, and no contamination was found. He added that all the "disturbed material" on the roof has been removed.

No injuries were reported.
