SALIDA, Colo. (AP) — One person has been taken to a Salida hospital after colliding head-on with a Colorado State Patrol vehicle.

The crash happened early Tuesday on U.S. 285, about 7 miles north of Poncha Springs in Chaffee County.

Few details are being released, but authorities believe the driver of the other vehicle crossed over the center line and collided with a trooper's vehicle.

The trooper escaped serious injury, but was taken along with the other driver to Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center. The other driver suffered serious injuries.

No names have been released, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

U.S. 285 was closed in both directions for approximately two hours but reopened at about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday.
