DENVER (AP) -- Denver Health Medical Center has changed its procedures to get ambulances to the scene of a disaster sooner.

KMGH-TV in Denver reported this week the changes were made after a December crash at the Denver airport.

The station says it took 33 minutes for the first ambulance to reach a jetliner that veered off a runway and burst into flames. Thirty-eight people were hurt but none died.

The station says ambulances will now be sent to such incidents with lights and sirens on, and that medical helicopters will also be dispatched. KMGH said no helicopters were sent to the December crash, and ambulances were dispatched with lights and sirens turned off.

Denver Health confirmed it changed procedures after a standard review of the December response.
