The St. Baldrick's Foundation coordinates worldwide head-shaving events that raise money to support childhood cancer research

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The St. Baldrick’s Foundation has issued a lofty challenge to everyone who wants to help raise money for childhood cancer research: be a hero for kids with cancer by shaving your head in return for pledges of financial support from friends and family.

Participants find that shaving their heads in solidarity with the 160,000 children who are diagnosed with cancer each year is a small sacrifice in comparison to what these children endure. They want to raise money to help find a cure for children with cancer now and in the future.

The 8th Annual Colorado Springs St. Baldrick’s Fundraising Event will be held locally at Colorado College’s Armstrong Hall, 14 E. Cache La Poudre, Colorado Springs, CO.

Registered shavees who raise more than $150 will start getting their heads shaved at 12 noon and continue until 9 p.m. or all heads are shaved!

Local Irish band favorites Ceol Ceili and BlackThorn will play starting at 4:30 p.m.

Heads will be shaved by Salon Bella, along with other fine local hairstylists and barbers. Bristol Brewing Company and Colorado Springs Independent proudly sponsor the Colorado Springs St. Baldrick’s event.

Colorado Springs shavees have raised more than $700,000 for St. Baldrick’s Foundation during the past seven years. They challenge our community to hit the $1,000,000 mark this year!

About the St. Baldrick's Foundation

Since its inception seven years ago, St. Baldrick’s events have raised more than $51 million for childhood cancer research, with more than 73,000 shavees at 1,700-plus head-shavings in 48 states and 18 countries.  In 2008 alone, more than 565 events have been held throughout the U.S.A.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation makes grants to research institutions to find new cures for childhood cancer, and to find treatments to ensure a better quality of life for patients and survivors. The Foundation funds research projects conducted by established pediatric cancer experts, as well as younger professionals who will be the experts of tomorrow. Funds also enable hundreds of local institutions to participate in national pediatric cancer clinical trials, offering the best available care for every child. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is grateful to its many volunteers (bald or not!) and donors, including Headblade Ultimate Headcare, PartnerRe, elope and QBE for making life-saving childhood cancer research possible.  For more information about St. Baldrick’s, please call 1-888-899-BALD or visit www.StBaldricks.org.
