Protest outside Sand Creek High School, Board Meeting

FALCON, COLO. -- On Tuesday, students, parents and community members gathered outside Sand Creek High School to show their support for Principal Mike Collins and his wife Sandy.

"We are really tired of all of this. We just want some stability for our kids. I mean Mike Collins has been an awesome principal. I think he has been the best principal we have had. He has been very stable here with the kids," Ann Fletcher said.

Fletcher was upset with the school board's decision to let Collins go at the end of the school year. With a daughter at Sand Creek she said she appreciates what Collins has done for them.

"The kids all love and respect him, our opinions are valued with him here, and we feel comfortable and safe with him here, so it is frustrating," she said.

Fletcher's daughter Jessica agreed with her, saying Collins made Sand Creek a great place to be.

"He made it a personal goal to set up relationships with each one of his students, and having a principal that wants to be your friend and not a dictator is great," Jessica Fletcher said.

Other parents said the lack of communication between the school board and the community is the most frustrating.

"They talk a good game about wanting to be open and honest with the community, but they are not. They run and hide," concerned parent Tom Harold said.
