GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) -- The driver of a semitrailer hauling coal is dead after the truck he was driving collided with a pickup carrying hydrochloric acid in Mesa County.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper David Hall says the crash occurred about 8:45 a.m. Monday on Colorado 139, about 18 miles north of Loma.

Hall says the pickup driver survived, but the driver of the semi was unable to escape the wreckage and died.

Hazardous materials teams are working to contain the materials.

Grand Junction Fire Department spokesman Mike Page says a two-mile stretch of the highway will remain closed into Monday evening as crews clean up the mess.

The names of the semi driver and the pickup driver have not been released.
