Up to 8k census workers may be needed in Colorado

DENVER (AP) -- The U.S. Census Bureau could need up to 8,000 workers in Colorado for next year's census, but many of those jobs will last about 10 weeks from March to April 2010. Other positions last about a year.

Bureau regional director Cathy Illian says the bureau has already hired 800 people in the metro area to gather addresses that didn't exist during the 2000 count.

More jobs will be posted April 10 for positions in Aurora, Denver, Greeley and Westminster. Managers are paid up to $28.75 an hour, while "enumerators" -- those who go door-to-door tracking down surveys -- are paid $16.75 per hour.

More information is available at the census Web site, www.2010.census.gov/2010censusjobs.
