COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- * A major announcement by the Professional Bull Riders is coming today. Folks from PBR say there's some exciting news about John Elway and the inaugural Wild, Wild West Fest. They're telling the public all about it this afternoon at 2:00 at the Pueblo Marriot Hotel. The Wild, Wild West Fest is a western-themed festival hosted by PBR in pueblo. It features a parade with a special guest grand marshall, the PBR fan zone and a concert. The event is set for May 13-17.
* Penrose-St. Francis Health Services is hosting a free colorectal cancer awareness event for the community from 5:30 to 7 p.m. "Catch It Before It Starts!" is at the Penrose Library Carnegie Room. The event includes Penrose Cancer Center physicians talking about various colorectal cancer tests and treatments, a cancer survivor's personal story, and refreshments. Colon cancer is the third most common cancer and remains the second most common cause of cancer death. Approximately 150,000 new cases of colon cancer are diagnosed each year. Individuals who have no symptoms of colon cancer have a 5 to 7 percent "general population" risk of developing colorectal cancer up to the age of 70. People should RSVP for the event by calling Ask-A-Nurse at 719-776-5555.
* Today is the last day to register to vote for the April elections. Only non-active voters in Colorado Springs who want to vote in the upcoming elections need to register. All active voters will automatically be mailed a mail-in ballot. There will be several important ballot issues on the April ballot, including the election of new council members. * Drivers using East Galley Road between North Academy and Emory Circle are being encouraged to use alternate routes as workers are repairing a water main. Colorado Springs utilities crews began work Sunday and depending on weather conditions. Expect the work to last through April 30. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction while the work is being done. Water outages are not expected.
