COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- * Three of Fort Carson’s bravest who were killed in Iraq will be remembered this morning by fellow soldiers and family. Spc. Stephen Zapasnick, SSgt. Christopher Smith and Spc. Stephen Okray will be remembered this morning at Fort Carson's Soldier Memorial Chapel. The three died December 24 in southern Iraq when their vehicle rolled over. They were assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. Tthe ceremony will be held at 10 a.m.
* A new training class of the Sheriff's Citizens Patrol will graduate tonight. The patrol is a volunteer program offered by the sheriff's office to provide support to patrol deputies. Selected citizens can perform many enforcement-related duties that don't require a sworn deputy. Training for the program is a 12-week academy offered in the spring and fall. Applications for the spring session will be accepted until February 20. The graduation begins tonight at 6:00 at the training academy, 2739 E. Las Vegas St.
* Starting today, Pikes Peak Workforce Center will hold workshops to aid people looking for a new career by offering resume and portfolio management, job application questions, networking and an interviewing skill workshop. The workshop begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m.
* One westbound lane of Platte Avenue at the bridge over Sand Creek will be closed for about one week beginning today. Crews will be fixing the bridge which was damaged by a record amount of rainfall last August and September. Traffic delays are expected.
