COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Las Animas County Commissioners will reaffirm their opposition to the Pentagon's proposed expansion of the Pinon Canyon training site.
They are holding a special commission meeting at 10:30 this morning to pass a resolution showing strong opposition to the expansion plan.
Commissioners will also ask the state Congressional delegation to continue its support for federal law blocking funding of any and all aspects of the expansion.
The Army says it needs the extra land to accomodate the transfer of 10,000 troops to Fort Carson.
Also today, Colorado Springs Mayor Lionel Rivera is expected to make a big announcement this morning.
Now we don't have a lot of details, all his office is saying is that the mayor will be unveiling a new program that could save you *thousands* of dollars each year.
During these tough financial times people are doing all they can to save a buck or two, and this new program may help you do just that.

In other news, an area hospital in inviting the community to get fit.
Penrose-St. Francis won the American Heart Association, FIT Friendly Award, which recognizes companies that promote physical activity and health in the workplace.
And in honor of that distinction, the hospital is hosting a community boot camp at noon today.
The 45-minute cardiovascular and strength workout will be held at the hospital's e-tower aerobics room.
