Sheriff's office says shots were fired during a fight in a park
EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- Two people are dead following an afternoon shooting in a park behind the Constitution Square Apartments.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said they received a 911 call around 4:00 Thursday afternoon that a group of about 20 teens were fighting in a park.
When deputies arrived they found two people with gunshot wounds. One victim died on scene, the second at the hospital.
The reason for the fight and shootings are currently under investigation.
The sheriff's office said the ages of the two victims are somewhere between 17 and 20. As for their gender or names, those have yet to be released.
"I heard all of the yelling and screaming, I heard everything that happened and then it just got quiet after that," Dena Cannon said.
Cannon lives in the Constitution Square Apartments. After Thursday's events, she worries about the safety of her family.
"My son plays at that park quite a bit, and my husband and I walk up and down that stretch of road, all the way past the park, and now I do not want to go over there anymore because it can be kind of secluded," Cannon said.
As for the sheriff's office, they are releasing few details, but said they are actively looking for suspects.
"Right now we are looking for two vehicles, one is a 1997 blue Chevy Cavalier, license plate 293-SLF, the other vehicle is a green four door sedan late model unknown make," Lt. Lari Sevene said.
Lt. Sevene said they also do not know how may shooters may be involved. She said due to the nature of the crime and the area in which it occurred their investigation may take time.
The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information about Thursday's crime to call them at 390-5555.
