* Former Colorado Springs city council member Bernie Herpin makes the formal announcement of his candidacy in the city council elections tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at the Radisson Hotel on Newport Road. State representatives Larry Liston and Mark Waller have endorsed Herpin and have signed on as honorary co-chairs of the campaign. As a volunteer with Colorado Springs Police Department for more than 20 years Herpin is a strong advocate for public safety. The election is set for April.
* Seven convenient locations in El Paso County make it easy to recycle your christmas tree this year. The tree-cycle program will operated at six neighborhood locations the first two weekends in January, starting tomorrow. Drop off trees,stripped of holiday decorationsaat these locations: Baptist Road trailhead, Falcon trailhead, Cottonwood Creek Park, Sky Sox stadium, Rockledge Ranch and Memorial Park. * It's time to get back into the holiday spirit by tossing a fruitcake! The 14th annual Great Fruitcake Toss will be held Saturday, Jan. 3. If received fruitcakes for Christmas and don't know what to do with them, bring them to Memorial Park in Manitou Springs and give them a toss! All are invited.
