K-9 police officer and dog recovering from accident

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police Department has released information about the status of K-9 handler Officer Bret Ambuehl and K-9 “Hunter” after many inquiries from the public about their condition.

The pair was involved in a traffic accident on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, around 7 p.m. at Academy Blvd. and Austin Bluffs Pkwy.

Both are recovering from injuries they received in the incident. Ambuehl received multiple contusions in the accident, and was treated and released on the evening of the crash. 

K-9 Hunter also suffered from multiple contusions and a bruised lung. He was taken out of service to facilitate his recovery on the advice of a veterinarian. 

It is anticipated that both Ambuehl and K-9 Hunter will return to full duty sometime during the week of Jan. 5–11, 2009.
