DENVER -- With an estimated 615,000 natural Christmas trees used in Colorado homes this holiday season, Colorado Recycles has released its annual Christmas Tree Recycling Guide (available at:  www.recycleyourchristmastree.com).

The web site offers county-by-county detailed information on different programs across the state, as well as instructions on where the public can take Christmas trees to be recycled after the holidays.

“We estimate that approximately 523,000 - 554,000, or as much as 90 percent of natural Christmas trees will be placed in community based recycling programs,” said Dick Brown, Colorado Recycles Executive Director. “We would like to see that number continue to rise since the recycled tree materials have numerous environmentally-friendly uses including mulch and soil erosion control.”

The web site offers other resources such as information for teachers, a link for residents or businesses that have a tree recycling program that would like to be added to the guide, and interesting information about what happens to Christmas trees after they are recycled.

Colorado Recycles is a nonprofit organization, and has been the premiere organization dedicated to the promotion of voluntary recycling activities throughout the state of Colorado since 1983.
