COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- After a two-month investigation, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has today released information about an investigation into narcotics use and sales at Cheyenne Mountain High School.

Detective Bill Walsh was asked by school officials in October to assist with a student who had been in possession of Xanex and a false identification card. Walsh is the CSPD officer assigned to CMHS.

Walsh conducted an investigation into the activities of said student, and developed information about narcotics usage, specifically black tar heroin, by students at CMHS.

Based on the information obtained, the case was assigned to detectives in the Metro Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence Division (Metro VNI).

An investigation was conducted which led to the arrests of Mexican Nationals and some former students of CMHS who were selling to currently enrolled students at the school.

This past Friday, Dec. 12., CSPD, along with School District 12 administration and counselors, worked cooperatively to provide information, resources and assistance to the CMHS community and parents in regards to the use and distribution of black tar heroin.

Families of those identified as being involved with the use of heroin have been notified, and services have been provided to facilitate intervention related to the drug usage.

The investigation into the crime is ongoing and additional arrests are forthcoming. Identies of those arrested have not yet been released.
