FORT CARSON, COLO. (AP) -- A Fort Carson soldier has pleaded guilty in the death of his 2-year-old nephew and has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports Pfc. Jason A . Price pleaded guilty in a military court Monday to involuntary manslaughter. He was sentenced the same day.

Price was accused of killing Kevin Rosa Perez last year.

He said in court Monday that he was alone with his three children and two nephews and tried to throw Kevin on a mattress, but the child's head hit an open drawer.

Price was originally charged with second-degree murder and faced up to life in prison. A plea deal reduced his maximum sentence to 15 years.

Price's attorney says Price will likely be paroled before the end of his sentence.
