COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- As the deadline for the $500 billion military cut nears Republican Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) hit the road to inform the country about the potentially devastating impact it could have.
"I asked the assistant commandant of the Marine Corps what does sequestration do to you? Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire said. "And you know what he said to me in the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Marine C orps would be unable to respond to one major contingency on behalf of our country."
Estimates predict 17,000 jobs would be impacted in Colorado statewide because of the $500 billion across-the-board reductions to National security.
Two-thirds of the Colorado impact would be in Colorado Springs and El Paso County.
But besides job loss, the three senators emphasized, the budget cuts under sequestration would destroy the foremost responsibility our government has to the American people, safety.
"Peace is something to work towards. Peace is achieved when they're afraid to engage you in war," Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said.
And with the budget cuts looming, the fear is that our security will weaken and our dominance as a world power will be in jeopardy.
