FREMONT COUNTY, COLO. -- Fremont County Sheriff's deputies arrested two men Thursday morning who were caught cutting copper wire from a slide fence and trying to take it.
According to deputies, 25-year-old James Ophof and 28-year-old Rory Johnson were cutting the wire from a fence that protects the Gorge's railroad tracks when rockslides happen.
The fence is designed to alert officials when rocks slide down close to the tracks.
Both Canon City men face charges of felony theft, felony criminal mischief and second degree trespassing. Their bonds are $3,000 each.
Officials said it will cost about $2,000 to repair the fence.
