COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Southern Colorado's largest food bank held a one-day food drive to help victims of the massive wildfire burning in northern Colorado.
Care and Share in Colorado Springs collected items at its warehouse Tuesday, and all food collected will be immediately shipped to the Food Bank of Larimer County Wednesday to feed more than 3,000 people who have been displaced because of the fire.
Care and Share collected a total of 12,252 pounds of food and $1,500 from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Tuesday, superseding their expectations.
"Care and Share Food Bank is very happy to be able to give the Colorado Springs community a way to help our neighbors to the north," CEO Lynne Telford said. "Volunteers will be on site all day Tuesday collecting food and money."
The High Park Fire west of Fort Collins has burned 92 square miles and has destroyed at least 189 homes so far. It is about 50 percent contained.
