DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Department of Agriculture has canceled a quarantine placed on a Douglas County ranch after a horse was found with a potentially fatal horse virus.
State officials say the quarantine was successful after a horse was brought to Colorado from Iowa and was euthanized after showing signs of the disease.
State agriculture officials say the latest equine herpes virus case was not associated with a show or event like the one blamed for a serious outbreak last year.
Infected animals usually get sick between two and 14 days after they are exposed to the virus. Symptoms include fever, sneezing, staggering and partial paralysis. The disease is not harmful to humans.
