COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Chickens that were rescued by firefighters during the Waldo Canyon Fire are now modeling for a good cause. Joy Love and Ken Barker live with their two children in the Mountain Shadows area. There home came within feet of being destroyed by the fire.

"We had trees that were as tall as the deck," said Barker. "And they all completely burned and that meant that the flames were about 30 feet above the house and starting burning the coup and most of the garden."

Not only did the firefighters save their house and their chicken coup, they even fed and watered the surviving flock.

"Over drinks one night a friend of mine was like, you should do a chicken calendar," said Joy Love. "And at first we were like, oh we'll dress the chickens up like firefighters, but then I was like, where am I gonna get chicken costumes. Like, that seems far more complicated. And so then we decided to honor organizations that helped out during the fire."

The money raised will go in part to support some of the firefighters who battled the blaze in the neighborhood.

"Some of the volunteer firefighters who actually worked this neighborhood...they have to buy their own equipment," said Barker. "And some of the guys didn't have the proper woodland firefighting boots for fires. So we wanna make sure whatever money we can get, we're gonna try to help these guys out."
