EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- A 77-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on the Peyton Highway.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, a 1986 Toyota pickup, driven by 77-year-old Raymond G. Lippert of Colorado Springs, was traveling southbound on the Peyton Highway near Holman Road when it lost control at about 8:40 a.m.
State Patrol said the vehicle lost control on the icy, snow-packed road. The pickup started to rotate counter clockwise and traveled across the highway and off the eastern edge. The pickup, according to authorities, continued to rotate as it traveled across the grassy shoulder before colliding with a barbed-wire fence.
Once the pickup hit the fence, it started to overturn and entered a pasture where it came to rest on its side.
State Patrol said Lippert was not wearing his seat belt. He was ejected from the pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said driving too fast for the conditions is suspected in this case. It remains under investigation.
