Southern Colorado braces for winter storm

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- With the potential for snow and winter weather, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is preparing.

In Southern Colorado, CDOT said crews started at around 6 p.m. That includes crews in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Trinidad and La Junta.

Snowfall totals in the area, according to FOX21 team of meteorologists, is expected total 2-5 inches. Heavier amounts are expected in the west near Woodland Park.

In Denver, CDOT said crews began at 5. A total of about 75 plows will be out. In that area, forecasters are calling for 4-8 unches.

Along the Eastern Plains, CDOT said crews were already called out Wednesday morning near Limon, Burlington, Lamar, Sterling, Wray, Julesburg and Brush. CDOT said the Kansas Department of Transportation is also preparing the roads and possibly expecting road closures.

Across the state, CDOT said about 300 snow plows will be working along the Front Range and Eastern Plains.
