Suspect leads police on chase after ramming cruiser

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The driver of a stolen vehicle rammed a police cruiser and led authrorities on a chase late Tuesday evening, according to police.

At about 11:30 p.m., police said a stolen vehicle was seen in the parking lot of the 7-11 convenience store at Platte Avenue and Union Boulevard,

After detectives tried to contact the suspect in the stolen vehicle, police said the suspect reversed and struck the front ot the police cruiser narrowly missing the detective.

The suspect then, according to police, left the area traveling at a high rate of speed. Additional officers also tried to stop the suspect.

An undercover vehicle soon saw the suspect on southbound Interstate 25 toward Pueblo. Colorado State Patrol was notified and Springs Police ended its chase.

The vehicle being sought was a white Hyundai Sonata with right rear passenger door damage and possible rear damage from hitting the cruiser.

The plates on the vehicle read 718ZBK, police said.

Investigation is continuing.
